The Idea School is a co-ed Orthodox high school opening in Bergen County, NJ, in September 2018. Using project-based learning as our educational model, we’ll have students engage in interdisciplinary studies, solve real-world problems, and create products and projects that have meaning to them and in the world. Our academic program is entwined with our social and emotional one, as we focus on the development of the whole person and see spiritual,  intellectual, and emotional growth as inextricably linked. Our mission is to provide students with the abilities to:

All of the educators we hire must:

We’re currently seeking candidates for the following positions:
 


Judaic Studies Principal:

Requirements:

  • Must excite students’ passion for and curiosity about their Judaism and empower them to derive deep personal meaning from their religion
  • Must have smicha and a B.A., and at least five years of teaching and two years of administrative experience

Job description:

  • Collaborate with the Head of School  
    • to plan an interdisciplinary, project-based learning curriculum
    • to develop a curriculum map for Judaic Studies that includes values, content, and skills
    • on a Hebrew Language program that ends in student proficiency in Hebrew language
    • On recruitment and admissions
  • Collaborate with the HOS and faculty 
    • to recruit new students
    • on meaningful student and religious life experiences in the school
  • Must recruit and mentor new faculty
  • Teach Judaic Studies classes
     

College Guidance Counselor:

Requirements:

  • At least five years’ experience as a college guidance counselor

Job description:

  • Collaborate with the HOS to build a college guidance program 
  • Coordinate necessary paperwork to help students satisfy college admissions requirements
  • Assess students’ academic progress to meet requirements of specific colleges and college programs
  • Communicate with college admissions and financial aid departments
  • Develop programs to teach students and parents about the college admissions process
  • Assist students with finding out about scholarships and other supportive programs
  • Maintain working relationships with various colleges and universities
  • Understand financial aid requirements for students of varying needs
  • Supervise the standardized testing program in the school 
  • Coordinate with the math and humanities teachers to create an ACT and SAT prep program in the school

Humanities Teacher

Requirements:

  • B.A. and M.A. in English, history, or English or history secondary education
  • At least five years’ teaching experience
  • Experience implementing project-based learning

Job description:

  • Teach an interdisciplinary English, history, and Jewish history course
  • Collaborate with HOS and STEM and Judaic Studies teachers to implement an interdisciplinary curriculum

STEM Teacher:

Requirements:

  • A B.A. and/or M.A. in a natural or physical science, engineering, or computer science
  • At least five years’ experience teaching STEM
  • Experience in curriculum development in STEM areas

Job description:

  • Collaborate with the Head of School to develop a STEM curriculum 
  • Collaborate with HOS and faculty to create and teach an interdisciplinary curriculum
  • Teach STEM classes 
  • Incorporate digital literacy and multimedia into the curriculum

Math Teacher:

Requirements:

  • A B.A. and M.A. in mathematics
  • At least five years’ teaching experience

Job description:

  • Teach algebra
  • Develop the school’s ACT and SAT prep program for math

Hebrew Teacher

Requirements:

  • A B.A. in education, Hebrew language, or related field
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking modern Hebrew
  • M.A. or post-college training in Hebrew language acquisition
  • At least five years’ teaching experience

Job description:

  • Build a two-year Hebrew language acquisition program, so students are proficient in Hebrew by the end of tenth grade
  • Collaborate with HOS and faculty on a problem-based learning project that can be twinned with students in Israel

Arts Teachers

Requirements:

  • A B.A. or M.A. in the dramatic or visual arts
  • At least two years’ teaching experience in a formal or informal setting

Job description:

  • Collaborate with HOS and faculty on integrating the arts into the project-based learning, interdisciplinary curriculum of the school
  • Teach the arts 
  • Advise extra-curricular art or drama clubs
