Admissions Process

Our admissions process is designed to give students and families an opportunity to experience PBL and our unique learning environment, as well as provide us with insights into students’ strengths, passions and learning styles.

Our application consists of general information, student and parent essays, school recommendations and report cards, and is designed solely to give us a window into an applicant’s personality and interests and desire to thrive in a project-based learning environment. We do not conduct a placement test to determine eligibility for admissions, and our admissions process is designed to be a stress-free one for students and families.

  1. Application: Our application can be completed directly on our website at  You will be directed to the TADS system to complete and submit the application and all related documents.  Applications for the 2020-2021 school year are due by December 31, 2019. The application fee is $150.00

  2. School Tour and Visit:   Prospective students have the opportunity to visit our school and see us in action.  These visits are scheduled as follows:

      8:30 am-12:00 pm

    • December 6, 2019

    • December 9, 2019

      2:00 pm-5:00 pm

      Please e-mail or call (201) 408-1468 to schedule your visit. We do not require students to submit an application before visiting our school and experiencing our educational model first-hand.

  3. Interview:  We will reach out to students who have applied to schedule an interview.  In our view, this is the most important part of the admissions process, as it truly gives both of us an opportunity to learn more about each other and ask any specific questions about a high school choice that best suits the student and family.  

  4. Acceptance Decisions: Letters of acceptance will be sent on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

  5. Tuition Fees: The Idea School tuition for the 2020-2021 school year is $18,000. This amount reflects a decrease from $23,000 in 2018-2019 and a commitment to providing an excellent and affordable Jewish education to families. Our partnership with the JCC enables us to lower our cost, and as our Board President, Raz Haramati says: “This price point reflects the school’s desire for our families not to be overly burdened by the price of day school tuition and to ease the financial tension of living a fully Jewish life. We are grateful to our partners at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades for their support.”

  6. Registration Fee: There is a $1000 registration fee to be paid upon registration to The Idea School on or before the registration deadline of March 3, 2020. The registration fee is in addition to tuition fees.

  7. Other Fees: There is a $350.00 per year trip fee which will go toward the many off-site activities the students will enjoy as part of their experience at The Idea School.

  8. Tuition Assistance:  Our tuition assistance process is needs-blind. Once a student is accepted to the school, parents can apply for financial aid directly through the TADS site as part of the school application process.  Awards will be determined by the scholarship committee.
